Having Troubles Understanding Hair Loss?

Do you suffer from hair loss? If so, you know that you are not alone. Many people, both men and women, suffer from this common problem, although it is more common in men due to hormones. Some people think balding is attractive, and can even look distinguished. But many people do not like the balding look and a receding hairline can make you look older. Women especially do not want hair loss or thinning as it is not as socially acceptable in females.

So if you have a problem with hair loss, what should you do? Don’t worry, you don’t have to just sit around and watch yourself go bald. There is help in the form of different treatment methods. To really understand what is best for you, you need to understand hair loss and why it occurs.

What Causes Hair Loss?

There are many different theories about what causes hair loss. Most scientists and doctors agree that it is probably a combination of these different factors that leads to hair loss and thinning. Some of the factors are:
  • Heredity
  • Age
  • Hormones
  • Illness or disease
  • Nervous conditions
  • Poisoning
  • Radiation exposure
While all of these factors can contribute, it is usually two or more together that lead to significant baldness. You have probably heard of “male pattern baldness” which is pretty common in men, especially with aging. If your father had balding or early receding hairline, you can expect that you may be more predisposed to it as well.

Another theory is that excess oil blocks the follicles and leads to hair loss. The oil has no where to go and unless it is washed away, it can block the follicles and hair can not grow.

What Treatments are Available?

There are different treatments available for hair loss. You may have heard of creams and sprays that can work to cover up your balding spot. These are just temporary but work great for someone with small balding or thinning spots. These treatments have come a long way over the years and look natural.

There are also permanent treatments such as hair transplants. This procedure can be expensive and may take several visits. Plus you have to allow time for it to grow in or it may not look appropriate but it is permanent and many people use it.

The most common treatments are more topical such as Rogaine, Revivogen, Avodart, Fluridil, Finestaride, Proscar, Retin A, Fabio 101, Laser Comb and many more. There are tons of commercial products that claim to help hair loss. Before you waste money on treatments and products, you should look into the product and read reviews and possibly even look up a history on the product.

If you are considering a hair loss treatment, you might want to talk to your physician to see what is best for you. Whatever you decide, you should know that you don’t have to be a victim of hair loss. There are things that can be done to improve your condition, especially if you act when it first begins.
