Hair Loss Prevention 101

One morning, you’re getting ready as usual when you notice some hair loss. You examine your brush, and yes, there’s more hair in there than usual. You do a thorough inspection of your head and determine that, yes, you are suffering from hair loss. Yikes!

Now you start wondering. What on earth is causing my hair loss? Is it something I did? Or didn’t do? Is there a way I can stop it? Am I doomed to loose all my hair? Where do I turn for help?

Well, the good news is hair loss doesn’t have to ruin your life. There are numerous hair loss prevention methods and products you can take advantage of. But before you rush out and purchase a lot of hair loss prevention products, you want to have an understanding of what exactly causes hair loss.

For example some common reasons for hair loss are:
  • Genetics
  • Age
  • Hormonal issues
  • Certain medications
  • Stress
  • Lack of protein or iron
  • Radiation exposure
  • Improper or harsh hair care
If your hair loss is due to genetics, meaning you inherited the gene that causes it, there may not be a lot in the way of hair loss prevention. Don’t despair, though. You have other options such as:
  • Hair transplants
  • Toupees or wigs
  • Different hairstyles
There are also some terrific hair loss prevention treatments on the market these days that, while they don’t stop hair loss entirely, can greatly slow the hair loss process. Some of them also stimulate hair growth, particularly if your hair loss isn’t caused by genetics or is severe enough that hair transplants are needed. Some of these treatments are:
  • Rogaine
  • Avodart
  • Furidil
  • Proscar
  • Retin A
  • Laser Comb
There are a lot of other methods and treatments available for you to consider as well. But first, you should talk with your physician. He or she will likely have an idea of which hair loss prevention method or medication is best for your particular hair loss.

Whatever you do, though, don’t rush out and buy up popular hair loss treatments out of anxiety. Relax! It’s 2005 and hair loss prevention and restoration methods have improved dramatically over your parents’ generation. Remember that Burt Reynolds was bald once upon a time, but not anymore!

So take the time to understand what’s causing your hair loss before you do anything. Then do a lot of research on the various products and methods before you spend wads of cash trying to stop it. Know which products have been thoroughly researched and tested for their ability to deliver results. You also want to find out if the results are long lasting or temporary—and how long you have to use them before you see results.

It’s also a good idea to look into alternative methods of treating hair loss. The best hair loss prevention method for you could turn out to be a vitamin supplement or a simple change in your diet. And you don’t want to throw a lot of money out the window only to find this out!

So do your homework. Then plan a hair loss attack. Because the best news of all is that you don’t have to be a hair loss victim. You can fight back—and you can win!
