Male Hair Loss

Male hair loss, also called male pattern baldness, is a pretty common problem. People have been combating hair loss for many years. And today we have many more sophisticated and successful ways of treating it but still we can not end it completely. Some people still have hair loss.

Reasons for Male Hair Loss

You have likely heard many reasons for male hair loss. In fact, one of the most common reasons that you have probably heard is that you get it from your father. Well, this is true but technically your mother could carry the gene as well. But heredity is just one of the many reasons for hair loss. Some other reasons are:
  • Hormones
  • Aging
  • Hormone imbalances
  • Disease
  • Radiation
  • Toxins
Most experts will agree that it takes at least two factors to contribute to hair loss. Many men may be predisposed to hair loss due to their genes but other things can contribute to it such as stress and poor diet.

Treatments for Male Hair Loss

There are many treatments out there for hair loss and most of them are legitimate. You do however; need to look out for scams or for people or clinics promising you unrealistic results. If you visit a hair clinic and you see brochures presenting men with a full head of hair getting beautiful women and great jobs, you know that this is just a marketing scheme. Even if you do get all your hair back, it doesn’t mean you will be suddenly successful.

Getting treatment for your hair loss can help you in other areas of your life, however. You will likely have better self esteem which will give you the confidence to approach people and maybe to ask for that raise you know you are over due for. But it’s not the hair that’s doing it. It’s the confidence you get from having the hair back.

This is what treatment is really about. It’s about making you look and feel better about yourself. So when it comes down to it, only you can choose what treatment will be best for you. There are many different treatment options to choose from such as:
  • Medications (prescription and over the counter)
  • Cover ups and concealers
  • Hairpieces and toupees (commonly called “hair systems”)
  • Hair transplants
  • Other treatments
It’s obvious to see that all of these treatments are not for everyone but they are all good in their own way. You just have to find the one that will be best for you. Choosing the best treatment will also depend on the type of hair loss you are having. Do you have balding, receding hair line, thinning or combination of the types?

You might not like to take medications so you might rule that one out right away. Or if you don’t like surgery, you can check of a hair transplant. Just take some time to look into the different treatments and how they work and it will help you decide which will be best for you.
